Anos Incríveis - ep 87

- Kevin, wait! Have a minute?

- Hey Winnie.

Was she kidding? For Winnie I had a lifetime.

- You bet.

- I volunteered at this thing... but people are so "hypothetic", so I thought...

- Winnie, Winnie. Count me in.

- Great!

After all, this was the love of my life.
Potentially.
The future mother of my children.
Potentially.
There wasn´t anything I wouldn´t do for her.

- So, what am I contributing?

- Blood.

Potentially.

Anos Incríveis - ep 83

Ironically, while the long arm of the future was reaching out for Wayne, the long arm of my guidance counselor was reaching out for me.

- Are you related to Wayne Arnold?

- No...

- Very well then. What do you plan to do with your life?

- My life? All of it?

- Yes. What are you interested in?

- Well...

Let´s see, there were cars, girls, sports and.. girls...

- I like to read a lot.

- Good. Anything in particular?

- Well...

Let´s see, there were books about cars, girls, sports and... girls.

- I like the classics.

Anos Incríveis

Episódio 45.

Of course that for my sister and my father that form of special love and respect took the form of...

- I waited for half the night!

- You don't have to wait up for me!

... guerilla warfare.

- I left the porch light on until long hours! Do you have any idea how much that cost?

- Sorry! Take it out of my allowance!

Mom was the UN, trying to mediate the warring factions.

- Poisonberry syrup?

And failing miserably.

- Kevin, why is he always on my case?

- Well uh...

- Kevin, why can't she ever listen?

Me, I was kinda like...

- Uhhh...

Switzerland.

Anos Incríveis

Episódio 42.

O Kevin está imaginando o treinador de baseball conversando com o pai, na trincheira da guerra da Coréia.

- Jack, you saved my life!

- Nah, forget it.

- No, I owe you one. Anything, just name it.

- Well, someday I may have a son. If you're ever in a position of putting him on a baseball team, I'd really appreciate.

- Consider it done.

It gave a whole new meaning to the concept of war, knowing that millions of men had gone off to fight and save lives, just so that their inept sons could play junior high school baseball.

Anos Incríveis

Episódio 38.

Day 3 of my dad's week off. So far he'd tightened every screw on every kitchen cabinet, rewired all of our lamps and added another layer of isolation to the attic. In short, he was laying siege to my mon's domain.

- Honey, it's just a little crack.

Itálico
- Nah, it's falling apart. Where's my glue?

'Course, after years of experience, mom had learned to play dad like a matador dealing with a bull.

- Honey, do you want this last piece of bacon?

It all made sense now: I loved Winnie Cooper. And she loved me.

-
Winnie, Paul told me! And you don´t have to say anything.

- Paul told you?

- Well, yeah! Isn´t it great?

- Paul told you?

- He said you´re crazy about me!

(bate a porta na cara dele)

Oh yeah. Love.
Once upon a time it was simple.
If you liked somebody, you let´em know. And if you didn´t, you let´em know.
One way or another, you knew where you stood.
But as you get older, communication gets more... complicated.

I knew Winne was crazy about me, she´d said so to Paul. But for some reason, now she was having trouble saying exactly how she felt.

-
You´re rude, insensitive, thoughtless and smug!

There, see what I mean?

(
Aí, no meio do episódio...)

-
Kevin, I lied to Paul. I did tell him I liked somebody else. He asked who and I said you. But I didn´t really mean it... I just wanted to let him down easy. Ok?

I never knew until that moment how much it could hurt to loose something you never really had.

(
e no final...)

- I like you Winnie!

... and futhermore...

- ... do you like me?

- I lied about Paul. What I told him was the truth. I like you.

There was only one thing more to say. The simple thing. The brave thing. The thing it was in both our hearts.

-
Wanna... study for our history test?

- Sure.

Maybe we were learning that speaking from the heart isn´t always easy. That afternoon Winnie and I chose to leave those words hanging warm and unspoken in the winter air between us. But I think we both knew they were there, and we´d get to them someday.
The thing is, we just didn´t have to hurry anymore.
